There was a story I recently shared of a young woman who had the opportunity to teach a sweet class of children. By the end of the day, she laughed with her family as she reflected on the day. One of the greatest things that impacted that day was that she never realized how many times she would have to hear her own name from this class of children. The entire day consisted of hearing things like: “Mrs. Smith, I don’t know what to do”, “Mrs. Smith, can you help me tie my shoe?”, “Mrs. Smith, Billy hurt me.”, “I don’t like doing math, Mrs. Smith.” That evening as she shared this with her family, she said to them, “I never knew I could hear my name so many times in one day.”
As I think about this, I am sitting here thinking about the importance of knowing my name. Yet, more important than this is the fact that I want the world to know that Jesus knows my name! I am praying also, that Jesus knows your name. As a young girl, I remember an old hymn we use to since that said, “When the Roll is called up yonder I’ll be there”. It spoke in the verses about hearing the Savior’s voice.
Are you in a place today that you must ask yourself that question, “Does Jesus know my name?” His scriptures tell us that we will hear His voice and we will follow Him. Are you following Jesus today? Are you listening for that still small voice that tells you which way to go? Do you know Him today? I pray that you do. If you do not, please seek Him today and get to know Him. You will NOT have your name on that roll that is called up in heaven one day, unless you know the Savior in a personal relationship. Make today the day you decide to get to know who Jesus is. He knows all about you…so why not get to know Him?
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them,
and they follow me.
And I give unto them eternal life;
and they shall never perish,
neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”
